Reviewed by Anne-Marie Reynolds — I Love My Little Brother by Serene Chia is full of lovely illustrations by Rita Nilson and is a wonderful story about a little girl who is a little jealous of her new baby brother – until she has a conversation with her mother. This book is about teaching children not to be envious of a new sibling and that there is more than enough love to go around. It’s about teaching children that sometimes moms and dads need help too. It also helps to strengthen the natural bonds families have and helps children to understand their emotions during such a time and learn to handle them.
This is a well-written tale. The illustrations help children see what is happening, not just hear it. It is down to earth, written in plain language, and is a book every parent should have to read with their children when they are about to introduce a new baby brother or sister to the family. Children don’t understand how to deal with emotions, and this is the perfect book to make them realize that their feelings are valid but that there is always another, better way to deal with them.
Reviewed by Christel, Parent Coach, @survivingtothriving1 — The way that “I Love My Little Brother” is written is very understandable, and my young children relate to it very well. There are parts that are funny, and it really shows a lot of emotions a child may feel in regard to having a new sibling, it also talks about different ways that an older sibling can help their new younger sibling.
